A Fourth to Remember: Voices for Freedom and Red, White & View

This past Fourth of July weekend was one for the books here at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History! Two events, and one incredible community that showed up to celebrate with us. We couldn't be more grateful, and we're already looking forward to doing it all again.

Voices for Freedom
Our courtyard came alive with history this Independence Day during Voices for Freedom, an immersive event that brought the spirit of American freedom to life through the power of performance.
Costumed interpreters mingled with the crowd before the parade, singing songs and drawing guests into the world of another era. One of the most memorable moments of the day was a stunning original poem, delivered with incredible power and heart.
The morning also featured a reading of the Declaration of Independence and, perhaps the most moving moment of all, came from the smallest voice in the room. This year's essay contest winner, a fourth-grade student from Millennium Charter Academy, had his winning essay read aloud by an interpreter.

Red, White & View
Up on the museum's third floor Merritt Program Space, guests gathered for a festive and relaxed parade viewing experience unlike anything else in town. With a front-row view of the parade route, the room was buzzing with energy as the live radio broadcast of the parade played and costumed interpreters roamed the space, chatting with guests and adding a little extra flair to the celebration.
And the food? Let's just say the spread was very on theme. Pigs in a blanket, pimento cheese, pinwheels, lemonade, and all the Americana picnic classics you could want made for a spread that felt like a backyard cookout with the best possible view.
Thank You, Mount Airy
Events like these don't happen without a community willing to show up, celebrate, and make memories together. Thank you to every interpreter, every volunteer, every essay contestant, and every guest who spent part of their Fourth of July with us. You made this weekend truly special.
We'll see you at the next parade.
