The newest exhibit "Valor, Victory and Vigilance", features Company "A" of the 426th Field Artillery Battalion. A local army reserve unit consisting of approximately 75 men from Mt. Airy, the 426th was called up for active duty during the Korean and Cold War era. In 1951, they were transfered to Bremmerhaven, Germany and their function was to operate the largest howitzer weapon of the 50's era. The 426th distinguished itself as "the elite" of the artillery units and Company A's service record is filled with honors and recognition because of outstanding performance.
