INTERNATIONAL DOLL EXHIBIT

Return to Previous Page

This spectacular collection of over 150 international dolls originally owned by Mrs. Alice Sparger Kochtitzky, was donated to the Mount Airy Public Library in 1973 and now makes its home at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History. The dolls were purchased by Mrs. Kochtitzky for her granddaughter during various trips around the world.

In 1899, Mrs. Kochtitzky, the daughter of J.H. Sparger, a leading tobacco manufacturer in Surry County, married Edward H. Kochtitzky, head of the Mount Airy Furniture Company. Upon her death in 1971, she bequeathed her magnificant home on Pine Street to Mount Airy for use as a public library which it remained as such until the new library was built in 1982.

This new exhibit can be seen in the North Gallery of the Second Floor.
