A Historical Legacy: Thomas Woodroffe, Sr. and His Family

Return to Previous Page

Numerous artifacts such as an 1870s tea caddy and traveling desk, music books from 1909, an English flute of ivory and wood circa 1872 and an 1892 wedding dress from the Thomas Woodroffe, Sr. family are exhibited throughout the two Victorian exhibits in the North Gallery of the second floor. The Woodroffe family created beautiful architecture and music. The granite quarry was founded by the Woodroffe's; they were instrumental in donating the granite to build two beautiful churches in Mount Airy: the First Baptist Church and Trinity Episcopal Church. Many people were entertained with Sunday afternoon concerts in the Woodroffe's music room of their home on Main Street.
